LEIGH WOOD VS JOSH WARRINGTON - FIGHT STATS & TRENDS

There’s nothing quite like an all-British world title clash to get the juices of the British boxing faithful flowing and that’s exactly what we get blessed with this weekend as Nottingham’s Leigh Wood defends his WBA World Featherweight Title against Leeds’s Josh Warrington in Sheffield.

This will be the fifth time in a row that the defending champ Wood has fought for the belt after dethroning Can Xu back in 2021 and then defending it for the first time with a KO & comeback of the year contender against Michael Conlan before he was emphatically knocked out by Mauricio Lara earlier this year.

He did however avenge that defeat to the Mexican with a near-punch-perfect performance at The AO Arena in Manchester back in May of this year.

Warrington’s recent form has been a bit all over the place. After a loss and a draw to Lara, he then reclaimed his IBF world title by knocking out Kiko Martinez in March of last year but he was then edged out by another Mexican in the shape of Luis Alberto Lopez to lose his IBF crown once again.

The fight between these two has been touted for years, but the intentions were for it to be for multiple world titles and at a football stadium due to both fighters’ support for rivals Nottingham Forest & Leeds United.

However, there is only one world title on the line and it’s taking place on neutral territory in Sheffield, nevertheless, it looks set to be a fight-of-the-year contender.

We’ve taken a look at some of the key stats & trends of both fighters heading into this weekend’s exciting 50/50 clash.
